Data Sources
Pronunciation and etymology enrichment
CMUdict supplies US English dictionary readings for matching spellings. These are labeled ARPAbet, a phoneme notation, and preserve alternative readings. They do not establish how every person or language pronounces a name. For example, JH EY1 M Z represents an English reading of James. IPA is stored separately only when supplied by a source.

The expanded catalogue covers 5,013 name records from English and 22 additional language dictionaries, with source-linked origin labels, etymology or form explanations, and pronunciations. Pronunciations retain their language labels. Form equivalences are not literal meanings, and uncertain etymologies remain uncertain. Pet and creative combinations are separately labeled as naming ideas.
Wiktionary adaptations credit Wiktionary contributors and the Wiktextract/Kaikki extraction project. They are shared separately under CC BY-SA 4.0 and are not included in commercial generator lexicons. Syllable counts are estimates used for browsing.
